Report
Great turnout for the October Navigation Run which took place on Friday 13th!
Twelve crews & a safety car set off from Ysgol David Hughes Sports Hall. It was fantastic to see some new faces and some budding new navigators.
Dafydd Hughes & Huw Gwyn Jones were available at signing on to help with the plotting. The route of 25 miles and whole evening had been arranged by two of the younger members of the C&A Motor Club – Deio Hughes & Will Hughes; taking the plunge in arranging their first event. They had carefully selected an interesting and challenging route in the Dwyran, Llanddaniel, LLanfairpwll area.
Youth was obviously on their side –they had been quite cunning in placing a few of the code boards in quite tricky places – well done lads, a brilliant first attempt and I am sure that you will soon be taking on bigger events.
They were assisted at the finish (Gaerwen Arms) by Dafydd & Huw Gwyn who were responsible for the results as the lads were busy closing & clearing up after the event.
There was obviously some panic on their faces when they realised that the winning team appeared to be Rhian (Will’s Mam) along with Teleri (Deio’s sister) – this was more than they had bargained for! However, along came a novice team for navigation events – Darren Samuels & Mark Pugh, who narrowly beat the girls.
It was a great evening & a big thank you to the organisers. Thank you to all our fellow competitors – really do hope that we see you on future events. Navigation Runs are the best place to learn the tricks of the trade! And finally.....congratulations to Darren & Mark ( I think you won because you followed us !!!!!)

Information.
This event that offers an excellent opportunity to learn about plotting a route and map reading. Not only that, you learn so much about the local roads and 'not as map' junctions.
The equipment that is required, other than the relevant Ordnance Survey map, is a pencil, map magnifying glass and map light (a 'Poti' combines both magnifier and light). You may find a clipboard useful as well.
The object is to plot a set route on the map using the instructions provided and to drive around that route to record clues or symbols to prove that you have visited the various points.
Maximum number of cars is twelve at an entry fee of £10 each. Standard cars only and if you have spotlights on the car, please cover them before starting the event. Please let Deio or Will know if you intend to enter.
The start venue is David Hughes Leisure Centre, Menai Bridge, Map Reference 114/547 723. Report to the classroom for 7.00pm.
You will require the latest edition of Ordnance Survey map 114 - Anglesey.
The symbols to be collected on this event will be car number plates, so should be easy to spot.
