Report

Very many thanks to Will Hughes for this report on the event he organised with Deio Hughes. Thanks also to Rhian Jones for the photos in the slideshow.
Full results can be seen at the end of this report.

Having arranged our first Navigation Run last October, Deio and I decided it was about time we arranged another! This was prompted by the Valentine Rally successfully filling their entries with only Novice and Beginner crews and we were pleased that our Navigation Run also had a full entry - most of them also coming from crews hoping to gain some further experience of plotting and map reading.
The event started at Ysgol David Hughes Leisure Centre, Menai Bridge. We allowed 50 minutes of plotting time and crews had plenty of time to ask questions and get the route on the map correctly. Once everyone was happy, the cars left at minute intervals, starting at 19:40 pm.
The route was split into two sections, with plenty of time given for each. The first section set off towards Llandegfan, before making way down towards Beaumaris , taking a quick loop through Llanfaes and then returning to Llandegfan. Competitors then made their way through Llansadwrn and finished the first section just of the main road where Deio collected their first Route Card, enabling Huw Gwyn and Rhian to start counting their scores.

At half way, the more experienced crew of Rhys and Ian Owen, who had swapped seats for a change, were in the lead with 27 points. In joint second were Tomi & Osian and Manon & Jamie with 26 points.
The second half set off for a quick loop through Rhoscefnhir, then back on to the main road towards Pentraeth. The competitors then made their way along a twisty lane toward Talwrn, and into Penmynydd. The route then took a trip along Star run, passing Bwlch Quarry and finishing with a tour around Gaerwen industrial estate, ending at the Gaerwen Arms.
Out of a possible 66 points available the winning crew were Tomi & Osian collecting 54 points. In second place were Gerwyn and Joe who collected 53 points - very impressive considering this was their first attempt! The two crews were awarded with an Easter egg each for the driver and navigator.
Deio and I look forward to arranging another event again before the end of year, until then thanks to everyone who supported the event!
