Report
Many thanks to Ifor Davies for writing this report and congratulations to him and his team on another very successful Taith Eryri; many thanks also to Islwyn of Islwyn's Motorsport Photography for the use of the photos in the slideshow and the gallery.
A sunny morning welcomed all 38 participants to our new start location at Caernarfon Airport. The Wales Air Ambulance kindly allowed us to use part of their building for signing on and opened the HEMS café early to ensure that we were all ready for the journey.
Before we left, Chris Evans of Sbardun judged the best presented car; the award and the opportunity to have his car photographed alongside the helicopter went to the white Mini Clubman of Jamie Stevens. The car did indeed deserve the accolade; however, there were numerous other cars equally worthy of an award.
Setting off at 10.15 hours, we left Dinas Dinlle, along Foryd Fach and into Caernarfon before descending into Y Felinheli and a view of our destination across the Strais, Ynys Môn. By the time we had arrived at our lunch halt at Tacla Taid we had crossed the Britannia Bridge and followed the A4080 along the south coast of the island. A warm welcome awaited the participants at Caffi Nain and, thanks to Sarah and her colleagues, we were all fed and watered very efficiently.
Then, it was onwards across the island towards Penmon, Llangoed and Beaumaris. At Beaumaris we were invited to attend a Classic Car gathering organised by the Automobile Club of North Wales. We were all given an enthusiastic welcome by Berwyn and, after a short break to pick up an ice-cream, we ere on our way again towards Menai Bridge, Bangor and the classic JJ Brown Llandegai ford, Pentir and the views from Ceunant.
The last leg took us from Waunfawr over to Rhosgadfan, before dropping down to Dinas Dinlle via Groeslon and Llandwrog. On our return to the Airport all the proceeds were collected and a grand sum of £1,083 was handed over.
Thanks are extended to all who took part and contributed to the cause. In particular, a big thank you to Chris and Beti Evans of Sbardun who kindly supplied the tour plates and to Williams Denton for preparing the road books. Also, amassive thanks to my family for their continued support; to Gwerfyl, Peredur, Angharad and Rhys … diolch.
Ifor Davies, Organiser.
The tour will be about 80 miles long. We will set off at about 10.00am from Caernarfon Airport and return there for the finish at around 4.00pm.
Further details will be posted on this page nearer the date and also here at the Taith Eryri Facebook page.
