Report

Thanks to Sion Matthews for this report.

A good turn up of entries for the Icicle Navigation Run 2022. Lee and Endaf went and put the symbols out an hour ahead of the crews, whilst Sion signed everyone on and gave them their packs, helped by Dylan. Lee later went to fetch the symbols and amazingly they were all still there.
Starting in the Gaerwen Stermat car park the route was divided into five sections, the rules were important on this event so some crews, although they found the symbols, wrote them down in the wrong section or picked up the duds. Grid references were used along with some Not As Map’s (NAM’s).

Section 1 - Stermat, Gaerwen to Glyngarth, a fairly simple first section through Star, ending with the hard to find white in Llandegfan.|
Section 2 - Glyngarth to Llangoed, another hard to find road, the hairpin left opposite the Gazelle hotel, heading towards Llanfaes using the slot right at Sling.
Section 3 - Llangoed to Mariandyrys, this is where it gets tricky, with a NAM and looping back towards yourself on the map including the Caim loop, it’s easy to get lost here.
Section 4 - Mariandyrys to Pentraeth B5109, another NAM then heading towards the LLanddona beach but taking the short route. With a maze of little white and NAM roads, a few where used in Llanddona to separate the novices and experts.
Section 5 - Pentraeth B5109 to Gaerwen Arms, first section being a long B road then heading through Pentraeth run towards Ceint, the NAM in Ceint leads up to the back of Gaerwen to the park and ride for the final NAM, then straight to the finish at Gaerwen Arms.

Well done to all crews, especially the winners Deio and Gwenllian who got 100% of the symbols, by only missing the last symbol just outside of Gaerwen Arms. Will got furthest cleanest ahead of Kevin, Osian and Dion, who missed a symbol in section 1 on a wide yellow in Llandefan village, with Duncan and Kay doing the same but also writing one of the symbols in the wrong section (end of section 3) loosing half a point, super close. Another furthest cleanest was Dion and Cory ahead of Chloe and Catrin, the girls missing the very first symbol.
Congratulations to Deio and Gwenllian on winning the Icicle tankard 2022
