The Guy Fawkes PCA is all done and dusted. Congratulations to Phil Roberts on the win in his MX5 with a quick, neat and consistent drive. His main challengers all had issues. Elis Matthews snapped a driveshaft in two on the first test in his Nova. This would be changed and set some fastest times but cone faults meant he would only climb to fourth at the end of the 12 tests.
Endaf Davies would be the initial pace-setter in the red Fiesta Mk6 and would be 17 seconds in the lead until he had a tyre get knocked off a front rim on Test 8 causing a maximum. The tyre was re-inflated by filling the tyre with deodorant spray and igniting it with a bang. It worked (don't try this at home) and he and son Iwan would end the day third overall.
There were a few others having tyres deflated, and the Fiesta being shared by Will Tsantanis and Will Owen turned into a hovercraft when the radiator fan detached itself and fell under the cars sump still attached by its wires with the fan spinning flat out. This was fixed, but another Fiesta in trouble was David Humphreys' 1.6 version, after changing a flat tyre the power steering failed, so they parked it back on the trailer, although they had done enough to be classified in 11th place. In fact, despite the paddock being full of activity, the only retirement was Tom and Jonathan Thomas' MX5 when the welded diff cried enough.
Iwan Evans had a great day to finish 2nd overall in another Fiesta Mk6, including setting some fastest test times, but the odd line fault on the final rounds meant he could not narrow the 1.4 second gap he was behind Phil going into the final four runs of test site C. A great drive mind you in a bog standard car.
Best Lady driver was Gabi Tsantanis who was flying, ending the day in 6th position sharing Iwan's car, whilst Winnie Chen finished 8th with last year's winning driver Sion Matthews guiding her around and giving advice. Matt Henrytook the best Novice award in 5th place, sharing Elis' Nova.
It was great to see newcomers too, Will T beating Will O by just 2.1 seconds in the Fiesta they were sharing, and Simon Chen getting faster as the day went on to finish 12th. The star of the day went to 15 year-old Liam Clare who despite having an ailing handbrake on his K11 Micra drove with purpose and maturity to end his first PCA in 7th position. A driver to watch out for I am sure.

As usual a massive thanks to Trac Mon for the excellent venue, the caterers, officials Dafydd, Ifor, Duncan, Jamie, and marshals Gruffydd, Paul, Garry, Sid and Yvonne. Another fun motorsport day with friends. Next local one will be Stuff the Turkey on 28th December. See you there.
