We congratulate Dafs Roberts on being invited to represent Wales at the Ken Wharton Memorial Autotest held on Saturday, 21st October, at the Arrow Mill Hotel, Alcester, which is just south of Birmingham. He follows a long line of C&A Motor Club members past and current that have competed on this event.
It was the 61st edition of the running of this international Autotest, which is promoted by Hagley & District Light Car Club, and teams representing England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales are invited to compete.
The first event was run in 1958 for the BBC, who presented the major trophy, and televised on Grandstand. BBC coverage continued for a further ten events since which the event has been featured in Top Gear and shown on Sky TV.
The Wales team consisted of Ash Slights (Mini 1380), Dafydd Roberts (Corsa 1600),
John Moffatt (Westfield 1800) and Dave Evans (Blitz 2000). Positions at the end of the day were:
1. Northern Ireland
2. Republic of Ireland
3. England
4. Scotland
5. Wales
Many thanks to John Moffatt and Dafs Roberts for permission to reproduce their photos and there is a link here to an excellent video posted by John on YouTube.
