It is with much sadness that we learn of the passing of Ieuan Roberts.
Ieuan was a member of C & A Motor Club for over twenty years and, more recently, an Honorary Member in recognition of his valuable contribution. Being interested in motorsport, he was encouraged to join by his friend Dewi Hughes. He was not interested in competing, although he did once act as bouncer on a PCT organised by Clwyd Vale Motor Club. His main passion was marshalling and he was Marshal of The Year several years ago and runner-up a couple of times.
He marshalled on the Quarry Challenge events, Autotests and the Car Trials and occasionally on night rallies, but stage rallying was his greatest interest, working with all the North Wales clubs and several from across the border. He was asked to do safety radio on the Cambrian Rally in 2003, using one of the club’s new radios, callsign Sport 2. It rained all day but Ieuan was dry for once and he decided that this was the way to do rallies. His last event was The Enville Stages in 2019, adding to his total of over 250 events.
Ieuan was quiet, kind and always ready to help competitors out if he could and was well known and liked both in C&A Motor Club and throughout the ANWCC and was awarded the Gary Matthews Achievement Award for his work with other motor clubs. His presence will be missed by many and we send our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
Thanks to Ieuan's friend, Paul Cross, for writing this piece.
